The Bowen Basin Symposium

The Bowen Basin Symposium is held once every 5 years, and fosters the exchange of technical ideas for the solution of common geological problems and challenges; and to maintain an awareness of new technologies.  Each symposium has always been a resounding success since its inception in 1985.  The next Symposium will be held in 2020.

The 2015 Bowen Basin Symposium was held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 7 – 9 October 2015.  The theme was Bowen Basin and Beyond; with an extended focus beyond the Bowen Basin to other coal Basins throughout Queensland, placing a strong emphasis on both the coal mining and coal seam gas industries.

Topics for presentations during each Symposia cover topics such as:

  • Geology;
  • Geophysics;
  • Database & Modelling;
  • Coal Quality;
  • Geotechnical;
  • Structural Geology;
  • Resource Estimation;
  • Safety;
  • Hydrogeology;
  • Environment; and,
  • New Technologies.
