2017 LEICHHARDT AWARD WINNER
Dr John Simmons was awarded the 2017 Leichhardt Award at a dinner at Sorbello’s Restaurant, in Mackay, Queensland. The award dinner followed the first day’s proceedings of the joint BBGG-ACARP meeting held at Central Queensland University (Ooralea Campus, Mackay) on 5-6th July, 2017. This award represents a step-change for the Leichhardt Award, as it recognises the contributions of geotechnical engineering to the success of Queensland’s coal operations. John is a leader in this field, and the award represents a group of professionals who have, for over 30 years, demonstrated their expertise to ensure safe and viable mining operations continue as geological conditions escalate challenges in the industry.
