INTRODUCING THE NEW MEMBERS OF THE BBGG EXECUTIVE

During the recent General Meeting of the BBGG at the 2021 Bowen Basin Symposium, four new members of the BBGG Executive were elected.

Congratulations to all of the incoming and outgoing committee members:

BBGG Chair – Ashley James, replacing David Green
BBGG Secretary – Peter Handley, replacing Danique Gerber
BBGG Treasurer – Natasha Thompson, replacing Angus McIntyre
BBGG-ACARP Liaison – David Drakeley, replacing Ken O’Reilly

Ken Preston & Dick Sanders awarded the 2021 Leichhardt Award

Ken Preston and Dick Sanders were awarded the 2021 Leichhardt Award during the 2021 Bowen Basin Symposium Dinner, hosted at The Big Shed in Mackay, Queensland.  The award dinner followed the second day’s proceedings of the  2021 Bowen Basin Symposium, held at the Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre on 28-30 March 2022.  

Ken Preston and Dick Sanders developed an equation to estimate the density of coal more accurately, which has become part of the industry’s lexicon known as the Preston-Sanders equation.

10:30 – 11:00 Arrival at Rolleston Mine, visitor sign-in/registration
11:00 – 13:00 Site Welcome/Induction, Technical Presentations
13:00 – 13:30 Lunch
13:30 – 15:00 Pit tour
15:00 – 15:30 Final business & depart from site

When organising travel to site, please consider car pooling to assist wtih parking arrangements for visitors to Rolleston Mine.

BBGG Meeting at Jeebropilly on 11 September 2019

New Hope Group are looking into options for bus transportation from/to Brisbane CBD.  Please register your interest in using this service when you reserve your place for this meeting.  Registering your interest in a seat on the bus is not confirmation at this stage; further seat confirmation requirements will be advertised at a later date.

2020 Bowen Basin Symposium website now live!

The BBGG has a proud history of presenting the Bowen Basin Symposium (BBS) every 5 years since 1985. The 2020 Bowen Basin Symposium is shaping up to be the most adventurous and exciting Symposium yet.

The theme of 2020’s event is looking “Beyond 2020: The Future of Coal”. This is an opportunity to look back at where we have come from, where we are now and where we are going. 

Please put the dates in your diary, make plans to attend and contribute.  Look out for updates on the Symposium website and/or sign up for membership of the BBGG now.

2019 BBGG-ACARP Meeting

The BBGG hosted the 2019 BBGG-ACARP Meeting at the CQU Rockhampton North campus on 3-4 July 2019.

The event provided an opportunity for industry and research to collaborate on projects being completed through ACARP: the Australian Coal Association Research Program. Research presented throughout the day is available for BBGG members to peruse on the 2019 BBGG-ACARP Meeting page.
